Supercar Street Challenge
PC race-action from Activision. VROOOM!
There’s a nice selection of tracks to enjoy, spanning a variety of diverse locations; London, Los Angeles, Monaco, Munich, Paris, Rome, and Turin, and incorporating a total of twenty-three tracks. Some of which are more visually exciting than others, though none of them could be described as highly realistic. But then that’s not what Supercars seems to be about. So what is it about, then?

Well, it’s certainly not of simulation pretensions, the car handling being nothing short of totally unrealistic. The collisions are similarly so too, barely slowing the race at all. Of course, this is to be expected of an arcade-orientated game such as this, though the fact that it is sometimes possible to actually drive through scenery is a little annoying!
This does not stop the race action being fun, fortunately; though as a whole the game does seem a little ‘dry’ and lacking in personality; if a game can have such a detractor. What’s needed is a little more humour and originality in the action itself; which would help make the game a little more appealing, and ultimately addictive.
As it is however, Supercars is something of mediocre effort, being rather dull in anything but the graphical department. It has got a few saving graces in the multiplayer options, and diversity of cars/tracks, though when push comes to shove it’s all a little predictable. Ho-hum.
