You must be thinking, “What about the weapons? What good is a John Mullins’ mission without deadly weaponry?” Well, has seen to that as well. SOFII will fourteen “real world” weapons (dropping the silly, futuristic weaponry present in the later levels of the first game), complete with authentic military designations and multiple firing modes. Some examples include grenade launchers, AK74s, the Heckler & Koch G3, Uzis, Mk23s, the S12 auto shotgun, and RPG7s. Mullins will be traversing such grand locales as Jordan, Prague, Hong Kong, Columbia, and several others in his attempt to thwart global terrorism where it breeds. As of February 13th, 2002, Raven has passed the beta deadline and is tweaking/testing the latest build. The majority of what is left to be done involves the perfecting of the save game routines, and designing setting that will allow the game to run well on lower-end machines. Specifically, they have spent recent days streamlining the memory management system and making sneaky designs that cache material while the game is loading or during the play of certain sequences. Both the functionality and the random mission generator are also being looked at with great scrutiny as the days until the gold master is due become fewer. With great graphics, sound, characters, and a compelling storyline, SOFII is poised to sate everyone with a fantasy of becoming a lethal mercenary for hire in a world full of terrorism. Be sure to keep an eagle eye watch out for it when it hits the streets this spring.
