I must say that until I was privy to a recent press release about this game, I didn’t even know it was in existence. I am however pleased I now do, as this game looks very impressive indeed. Apparently, it’s the sequel to a traditional top-down rally-flavoured game, on the Game Boy Colour, but the Advanced version certainly looks to be advancing things somewhat, if you’ll excuse my play on words. GB Rally 2 is being developed by an Italian developer called ‘Raylight’, who are also working on a few other GBA-based creations including ‘Wings’ and ‘Star Giants’, all of which look set to push the to never before seen levels.

These games all look far better, and more ‘Advanced’ than anything I’ve witnessed on the Hand-Held so-far, and for the first time we can enjoy an experience which looks like a competitive rival to many older racers; such as those sported on the Playstation. It’s all very impressive as a glance at the solitary screenshot should prove.

That’s not all the game has going for it however; the new realism of the environments is also matched in the handling, and road conditions which will differ depending on the track circumstances, etc. Of course, it still won’t be realism of Geoff Crammond proportions, but we’re expecting a far more involving experience than ever before, especially now the car can turn the full 360 degrees, flip onto it’s roof, etc. All this on hand-held! It’s enough to make me feel very old indeed…

Before rallying, drivers will also be able to tweak their car set-up, and, just to be social, Raylight are also including a very exciting four-player mode – for those of you with GBA-owning pals.

Here’s the specifications Raylight are offering us so far; eight cars (plus hidden ones!). All with visible damage upon collisions. Fourteen different location, spanning a huge forty-two different tracks. The tracks won’t be flat as in many other GBA racers; but will feature climbs and descents, adding detail and variety.

The game the following different play modes, too: Single race, Championship, Time attack, Multiplayer and Practice. Finally even a ‘Repair section’ will feature. apparently to add more strategy, challenge and reward for the player. As well complimenting the car set-up mode; for achieving maximum performance.

To conclude, this game looks set to be potentially groundbreaking, especially in the graphical department. I look forward to more information on this one and will be sure to badger ‘Raylight’ for further details on a daily basis. Sadly, no release date is specified, yet…
