What do you get when you cross “A-List” titles like Tribes 2 and Halo, and mix them together with the frenetic, save-the-human-race blitzkrieg found in Paul Verhoven’s Starship Troopers? The result of such an amalgam would be nothing other than a whole new Breed of gaming excitement.

Publisher CDV has teamed up with developer Brat Designs to bring gamers a whole new level of graphically intense earth-defending gameplay. Capitalizing on the current “team-based” gameplay style that is becoming more and more popular (the two titles mentioned above are a testament to that), and with such powerful tools as Brat Designs’ Mercury engine and unique “gameplay kernel,” it is becoming apparent that Breed is going to raise the bar for titles of this ilk to even loftier heights.

In the year 2600, due to advancements in technology and the all-to-human wanderlust, a large portion of earth’s inhabitants have departed the planet to colonize the inhabitable Besalius binary star system. Not long after the colonization was in full swing, several random attacks were inflicted on the colonists by an alien race they dubbed “The Breed.” As the attacks escalated in frequency and in intensity, the colonists were left no choice but to “phone home” for help. The reinforcements began a year-long journey to reach the colonists, hoping all the while they would not arrive too late. The war lasted decades and seriously drained the resources, manpower, and armaments of the earthlings, leaving them virtually stranded in the new star system. Only one earth ship was left in a condition that would be able to make the trip back to earth.

When the compliment arrived back home, they were shocked to find that the Breed had invaded the planet in their absence, and was on the brink of completely controlling it. The Breed had enslaved all earth people, employing them to build cities for them, and had also altered the planet’s ecosystem to be more comfortable to them, while at the same time proving deadly for all of earth’s original inhabitants. The commander of the returning cruiser soon realized that through the element of surprise, they just might be able to turn the tides of this war by employing several surgical strikes against the Breed’s defenses, which were mostly still offline.
