Project Ego
Big Blue Box follow in the inspired footsteps of Peter Molyneux; breaking the RPG tradition as they go...
So then Mr. XBox, what do we have here? It looks like another RPG with pretty graphics…. what’s so different this time then, why should I bother? What? You say I can completely take over my character’s life? Well, I do that all the time with all my other RPG games, that’s nothing new! What? COMPLETELY take over? What, like, from birth to death? Eating and sleeping and all? Blimey…. I’d better take a closer look…

At the time of going to press, details of this game are still incredibly sketchy, we do not really know a hell of a lot about it, but it is shaping up to be one of the most interesting games of the year; it will certainly attempt things never attempted before, so it’s important to give you all some idea of what to expect when it finally begins to take shape. It's being developed by Big Blue Box; one of Peter Molyneux's 'satellite studios', what's more, the game is being published by Microsoft. So I guess they must see something in the promises, as well. Looking at these screenshots of Project Ego you would think that it’s just another RPG. Sure, it’s pretty... very pretty, with all it’s wonderful landscapes and mountains and incredibly detailed characters, but it still looks like a bog-standard RPG game, with monsters and such to kill and so on and so forth. That’s where we are all mistaken. Project Ego looks set to offer so much more...
The main feature of Project Ego is your character’s progression, it will be absolute in every detail, put simply, your character will grow, but not like anything before. You will be alongside your character from birth, until death and along every step of the way. If you make your character work hard, he will develop into a strong, muscle bound, healthy chap (or chapess). However, if you are lazy with your character he will become a fat, lethargic, tub of lard. Who would you rather use in a combat scenario? This should make training your character that little bit more realistic, you must work hard to achieve a decent all-round avatar. It isn’t just the general shape of the character that changes as you progress though, your character will scar, tan and age as you play, providing an unbelievable amount of depth to your character’s growth. It all seems like a gigantic task to program however, can it really be done?
