Capcom stirred by PS3 gamers revolt
PS3 fans angered by DMC move
Capcom has denied that it has let down Sony and fans of the PlayStation, despite knocking a little wind out of the PS3's sails (sales?) by confirming Devil May Cry 4 will be going multi-platform just before the next-gen console's PAL debut.
Certain fans had attacked the publisher's move to develop DMC4 for the Xbox 360 and the PC, with a spokesperson for the firm denying that they were 'turning [their] back on the format'. The decision was taken, said planning director Christian Svensson, in order to make the new game available to as many gamers as possible.
One comment on the official Capcom forums read: "I just read about this whole Devil May Cry 4 going to the Xbox 360 and my question to you is, How much of a backlash have you received against this notion? Claiming things such as PS3 exclusiveness and that the game can only run under the PS3's power... What have you to say to that? I'd really like to know and what is the possibility of a retract of this movement or else time sensitive exclusiveness?"
"You've probably heard this before but Sony was good to you so why turn your back on them now? You guys said the same thing with Resident Evil 4 and the GameCube. I seriously am starting to doubt you Capcom, as a company," concluded the aggrieved commenter, 'RJV'.
"We are certainly moved that people are so passionate about our products that they would go to such extremes," Svensson replied. "At the same time we feel that allowing more people access to our content pleases far more people than it displeases (after all, we're not denying DMC4 to anyone that was already going to get it)."
The PS3 has been hit in recent months by the loss of a few high-profile exclusives, including GTA IV and Assassin's Creed. More on this soon.
