As we revealed yesterday, thanks to the ever-informative ESRB website, Wing Commander is on the way to the 360. The new game won't be a full title however, with instead confirming today that a brand new outing for the is instead the order of play.

Gaia Industries are developing the first 'proper' outing for the series in years, and a space-combat game is on the cards. A sixteen-player mode will be the meat of the game (though there will be singleplayer mode, as well), with EA taking an action-orientated approach with this Live exclusive offering. We presume this means there won't be much of a story.

“We’re really excited to deliver unparalleled multi-player arcade action,” said Chip Lange, EA Vice President. “The design for Wing Commander will appeal to both long-time fans of the franchise and immediately engage anyone who wants the melee style of an arcade shooter.”

Space action on Live it is, with this game being EA's second Live offering after Boom Boom Rocket, due in the spring.
