A turbulent 2003 for gaming
Analysts predict consolidation
As the 2002 gaming calendar staggers drunkenly to a close – industry analysts are already predicting the future of the business in 2003.
Apparently rising expectations and development costs, associated with increasingly complex hardware and software, will result in game development proving a far more costly and risky venture. The prediction then is that we’ll see a great deal of consolidation in the year ahead, companies merging and buying each other, etc.
This is hardly surprising, given the young nature of the business, which will no doubt see numerous smaller developers fold as the big-boys get stronger, and budgets larger. Japan in particular is ripe for such purchasing activity, as the industry has shrunk in recent years – according to reports.
More on these forecasts as we get it – and we will of course keep you posted on the latest gossip.
