Euro site fingered for selling Halo 3 beta places
Xbox Community Network controversy
Gamersquad.com are today reporting just how desperate some gamers seem to be in order to bag a place on the Halo 3 beta, which Microsoft opened sign-up for last week in North America. Whilst many websites, including those outside of the US, have received entry codes for the beta (despite the fact that the codes are theoretically meant only for lucky gamers), codes have none the less been spreading across European Xbox Community Network sites - with BritXbox accusing one unnamed site of selling its allocation for a speedy profit.
"If your site is found to be one of the offenders you will not receive any beta codes and will be removed from the XCN with immediate effect," read an email Microsoft sent to Community Network members. "We will also ensure that Microsoft will no longer have any involvement with your site."
It is unclear how much the entry codes are being sold for at present, or indeed the number of codes involved, but given how desperate gamers across the globe are to secure a place on the beta test and get an early glimpse at 2007's biggest title, it was inevitable that some entrepreneurial soul with a code would decide to cash-in.
More on the Halo 3 beta test as we get it.
