A new hacking contest, presumably designed to test the security of the PlayStation 3 and the special version of Limux created for it, has opened and will run until January 2007. The contest is being held by a new owner, with the prize being the PS3 itself. The system in question is actually running the website which hosts the competition, and is a Linux pre-installed model, with a 160 GB hard-disk, Resistance: Fall of Man and the hotly-debated HDMI cable included.

The shimpinomori site is hosting the competition, with willing participants needing to hack-in 'cleanly' and replace the image on the site's homepage with another photo in the 'ps3_challenge' folder, before notifying shimpinomori via email. The emphasis is on a clean job, with no dirty attacks allowed. The original photograph, of a baby and a PS3 box remains at present, denoting the lack of success to-date. More as we get it.
