360 Video Marketplace breaks post-launch
Lost downloads and meagre bit-rates abound
Video on demand may be one the key features of the Xbox 360 Marketplace going into the festive season, after a new service offering movies and TV shows launched stateside this week, but news of problems are now rumbling from across the pond. High demand for the new service has resulted in dismal download speeds and even lost content on occasions, as 360 users flock to sample the new service on Live.
It appears that the Xbox Live servers simply couldn't cope with the demand immediately following the launch, as gamers attempted to download normal and HiDef episodes of shows including CSI and South Park. Speaking via his blog, Xbox Live's Major Nelson confessed "these technical issues have resulted in a very unpleasant experience for our members, including extremely slow downloads or not receiving the content they purchased".
Microsoft are now promising total refunds for those experiencing issues with the service, whilst the company work 'around the clock' to solve the recurring problems. Those who have been unfortunate enough to lose downloads are advised to call 1-800-4MYXBOX. We'll keep you posted on this as we learn more.
