PSP firmware updated for PS3

With the PlayStation 3 console due out in Japan tomorrow, Sony have promised a new version 3.0 firmware update for the handheld, which will allow the systems to communicate. The functionality will be ushered in as part of the PlayStation Network update 1.10 for the PS3, which Sony are recommending gamers install as soon as they get their hands on the new console, which is also due out in North America on November 17th.

The version 3.0 update for the PSP should enable the much touted Remote Play feature on the handheld, allowing users with the PS3 to play content from the console's hard drive through the handheld. The update is also widely expected to allow the PSP to access the PlayStation Network, delivering downloadable content and games (Final Fantasy VII, anyone?).

Japanese gamers, meanwhile, are already queueing to get there hands on the PS3 just as soon as it launches. More soon.
