MS springs Doom Arcade surprise
Crikey...
There's pleasant surprises, and then there's Doom on the Xbox Live Arcade, tonight, for 800 Microsoft points. There's not much more to say, really accept for the fact this is certainly a surprise and most definitely a coup for the Xbox 360. We're promised an unadulterated port of the PC classic, including both single-player and two-to-four player co-operative and deathmatch modes.
The new Doom is enhanced with high-definition visual support and 5.1 sound."Haul out the BFG and fire-up the chainsaw, DOOM delivers the heart-pounding thrills of the original experience to a new generation," beamed Todd Hollenshead, CEO, id Software. "Now with Xbox Live Arcade, gamers can take the classic action online for over-the-top Deathmatch or team-up in co-op play." As you'll already know, Sensible World of Soccer will also be ported to the service early next year, and with these two classics bound for the Arcade, we can expect more retrograde hits heading there in due course. MS are predicting that Live will boast six-million users by June 2007, and were of course happy to talk about the fact that some 60% of 360 owners are now connected.
So there you go.
