Xbox 360 gets 1080p, new titles at TGS
HiDef gets higher
Word on the eve of the the Tokyo Games Show, which kicks-off soon in the land of the rising sun, has revealed that the Xbox 360 will be getting 1080p high-definition visual support. One of the main selling-points of the PlayStation 3 (and described by Sony as 'true' high-definition video, as opposed to the 360's previous 720p support). The 1080p resolution support will be ushered-in by the platform holders autumn software update, and whilst their won't be any HDMI output, standard 720p titles will be able to move-up a notch to cover the higher resolution.
We also learn from the pre-show announcements that the Xbox 360 HD-DVD will be out in Japan on November 17th costing 19,800 Yen - just shy of 100 GBP. Redmond also announced new Live Arcade titles from Konami and Namco-Bandai, confirming that Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 will be out November 15th in North America, the 22nd in Japan - and 'soon' in PAL regions... which is typical. We also learn that Blue Dragon, from veteran designer Hironobu Sakaguchi, will be out in December in Japan.
In related news, Microsoft announced plans to stage a Pac-Man World Championship next year, celebrating the retro-hit's debut on the Xbox Live Arcade. Apparently the finals will be held in New York, featuring the world's top ten players. New trailers, demos, video features and more are expected on Live from TGS over the course of the week, we'll keep you posted on all the latest.
