European DS Lite dated
June 23rd for smaller DS
The redesigned and streamlined version of the Nintendo DS will be heading to European shores next month, with Nintendo Europe having finally confirmed their plans for the release of the restyled handheld on the continent. The DS Lite will be out across Europe on June 23rd, and will cost 99.99 GBP. So far the DS has sold some sixteen million systems globally, beating even Sony's more technically accomplished PSP system.

The new system is notably smaller and lighter than the original, about two-thirds to be precise, and will come in black and white flavours. The redesigned screen will also feature four differing brightness settings. In tandem with the dating of the Lite system, Ninty announced that a new Nintendogs outing was en route, and would be out on June 16th (starring Dalmations, we're told). Brain Training: How old is your brain? was also dated in Europe for June 9th.
New Super Mario Bros was also cited, this time due on June 30th, with a few more games mooted for July. Fuelled partly by the popularity of the Brain Training IQ puzzle test game-thing, the DS Lite actually sold-out in Japan, with stocks still scant in places. We'll keep you posted on how it fairs in Europe.
