Kutaragi claims PS3 'too cheap'
...not too expensive
Sony Computer Entertainment bigwig Ken Kutaragi has been vocalising his many and varied thoughts at this week's E3 expo, responding to criticism that the PS3 is over-priced by telling Japan's IT Media that the PS3 is 'probably too cheap', according to an IGN translation. Kutaragi added that consumers will not have a problem paying the console's asking price, because the PS3 is not to be regarded as 'a games machine'.
"Is it not nonsense to compare the charge for dinner at the company cafeteria with dinner at a fine restaurant? It's a question of what you can do with that game machine. If you can have an amazing experience, we believe price is not a problem," Kutaragi pondered, according to IT Media / IGN.
The chief added that both Sony's previous consoles were regarded as too expensive at launch, and went on to be market leaders. The PS3 will cost 499 Euro / 499 USD in 20gb flavour, the 60gb version coming in at 599 Euro / 599 USD. The company has promised two-million systems by the end of the year, and another two-million by the following April. The system will launch globally in November, we'll keep you posted.
