The creative director of Ubisoft's influential Montreal studio has been criticising Sony's approach with the this week, according to reports. Clint Hocking is said to have lambasted the platform holder, pointing to a 'me too' approach concerning the PS3's controller and online service.

Apparently, Hocking attacked the PS3's online component as little more than Live 'mimicry', also noting the motion sensor in the controller which Hocking is alleged to have said was 'borrowed' from Nintendo. "How much more "me too" can be?" Nindojo.com state the chief as saying.

Speaking more broadly, Hocking told next-gen design workshop attendees that the industry's current obsession with visual improvement was a "fundamental problem of approach," which threatens to turn designers into factory workers. The director stated that despite low high-definition adoption rates, design teams were being forced to work over-time on textures and the like, which wouldn't be appreciated by the majority of a game's players. He added that this focus was to the detriment of other aspects of the title.

Unsurprisingly after voicing these thoughts, Hocking lavished praise upon Nintendo's efforts with the Wii... and we'll keep you posted as we hear more.
