Wii gets Sonic exclusively
The Blue One tilts into view
Bolstering the Wii as the E3 expo near in Los Angeles, Sega have announced a brand new Nintendo-exclusive Sonic game that is in development for the innovative new console even as you read these words (unless of course the development team are presently getting drunk in a Californian bar...).
Sonic Wild Fire will star just the blue hedgehog himself in a classically inspired romp that promises to take full advantage of the Wii's movement-sensing controller because the title will be crafted exclusively for the platform. No doubt a load of ring collecting will be the order of the day, and we also hear chatter of a bizarre storyline focussing on missing pages from the Arabian Nights stories.
We're told environments and objects within will be interactive and useful in a smorgasbord of new and original ways, whilst Sonic's world will be an onlookers paradise, alive with "brightly coloured mosaic tiles, glistening oases, swaying palm trees, and crumbling stone columns."
Apparently, you'll steer Sonic through the game by tilting the controller appropriately, whilst more erratic motions will enable rams, leaps and more besides. Quite whether this actually works in practice is of course untested, but it certainly sounds interesting. Mini-games will also be included. A release in 2007 is cited.
