Not content with creating some of the world's most controversial, high-profile videogames, publisher (Take-Two Interactive, in actuality) have this week revealed plans to enter the cut-throat Table Tennis genre. We kid you not, dear reader.

Either Table Tennis for the is going to be something more special than it sounds, or Take-Two's sleep-deprived lawyers are finally getting a say on the direction of new titles. Table Tennis is actually Rockstar's first next-generation title, or at least, the only one we know about thus far. "Our goal was to create a game that is perfectly addictive in its focused simplicity, a game that showcases the true possibilities of a next gen experience, not just in looks but in feel and pace," beamed Rockstar boss Sam Houser. "We wanted to use the power of the new and the resolution of new televisions to give the game an immediacy, an intensity and a sense of physicality and reality, resulting in a purer, more visceral experience that simply was not possible previously."

Houser explains that Table Tennis will concentrate "the hardware's entire power on one activity, with the aim of doing that better than it's ever been done before." You certainly don't get much more niche than Table Tennis, anyway. A release on May 26th is predicted.
