F.E.A.R. sequels en route
But that's not the name of the game...
Developer Monolith, who enjoyed resounding commercial and critical success last year with the excellent F.E.A.R., an FPS positively dripping with horror film suspense, have confirmed that sequels are in development even as we speak. Monolith, now a wholly-owned studio of Warner Bros. Interactive, will apparently create the sequels for the PC and 'next-generation' consoles. The PS3 and the Xbox 360, would probably be an educated guess.
In a twist on the standard sequel 'tale', Monolith's sequel probably won't actually be called F.E.A.R. 2 (or something similarly inspiring), because the name is still owned by original publishing partner VU Games, as part of a deal signed before the Warner Bros. purchase. A spokesperson for Warner Bros. has however gone on record confirming that Monolith still owns the actual content of the game, so a sequel following-on from the original will be developed in all but name, it would seem. Does this mean that VU Games could develop a F.E.A.R. sequel only in name?
Regarding the new games, Warner Bros. boss Samantha Ryan implied yesterday that separate versions of the sequel could be created for the PC and for consoles, taking advantage of the differences between the platforms, a habit publishers seem to be getting into lately. The Far Cry series, for example. We'll keep you posted on this as we learn more.
