Duke mod feels 3DR wrath
Half-Life 2 engine project chopped
Despite the fact that Duke Nukem Forever has been in development since the invention of the typewriter, 3D Realms are still affirming its reality, and even halted a Duke-styled Half-Life 2 mod which infringed on the Duke's legal turf - it was determined. Apparently, 3D Realms has a policy preventing amateur designers using Duke in relation to other game engines, despite the fact that this creation would probably be the only Duke we'd be seeing for quite a while.
The mod aimed to recreate in Valve's glorious new engine the brilliance and fervour of the original Duke Nukem 3D, but were halted in their tracks by 3DR's policy. The new Duke game, adjudged 'vaporware' by many, is probably in the longest development period in gaming history, and despite critical amazement and fan rage, the developers still insist it is coming. A showing at E3 is even promised in some form, which should be fascinating, if it materialises. We'll keep you in on the loop.
