Halo 2 revels in $100 million debut
But is it the biggest ever?
Well, not so much Halo 2, but certainly Microsoft and Bungie, who have revealed that Halo 2 has already taken $100 million in day one sales, more than any film ever, as beamed Bill Gates at a recent conference: "In the first 24 hours we'll have an opening that's [more] popular than any motion picture has ever had in history."
$78 million of the sum generated has reportedly come in the form of preorders ahead of launch, and EB are already stating that this is the biggest launch they've ever had, hinting that it could even be the biggest launch of a game ever - though we imagine San Andreas must be vying for that honour too.
Experts are saying that Halo 2 will probably shift some five-million copies within a month, one analyst elaborating: "I'd say 60 percent penetration on the console is a good number, so you're looking at 10 million copies worldwide." Not bad at all, but enough to top the latest GTA incarnation? We think its going to be close.
