The oft-discussed and often discounted Phantom console took another bold step closer to our living room's today, as manufacturer Infinium Labs revealed a list of twenty-two developers and publishers who are keen to see their titles available via the world's first games-on-demand broadband console. The system is supposed to launch stateside on November 18th, though many have doubted the likelihood of this, however the confirmation of such partners as Vivendi does at least provide the Phantom with some games - over 500, according to Infinium chief Kevin Bachus.
Bachus was also quick to assure that no major firm has yet to rule out working with Infinium, and that the twenty-two strong list will added to in due course. Eidos, Atari, VU Games and Codemasters are the biggest players so far enlisted, with smaller firms confirmed including: 21-6 Productions, BraveTree, Chronic Logic, Dreamcatcher Interactive, eGames, Enlight Interactive, Framework Studios, GamerBlitz, Gameware Development, GarageGames, Global Software Publishing, Interplay, Kuma Reality Games, Legacy Interactive, Max Gaming, O-3 Entertainment, Riverdeep, and Skunk Studios. In most cases these firms are planning to make their entire catalogues available to Phantom subscribers - which is a promising start.
Of course, if the Phantom is to really thrive, Infinium need to be tempting the likes of EA, Activision and Take Two onto their network, but with Microsoft having only just encouraged the former onto Xbox Live - we think its going to take some time to convince the industry's giant's of the system's credibility and viability. We'll keep you posted as November approaches, of course.
