Half-Life 2 release candidate for August

As release dates are the most fluid things in the gaming industry, and as this title has done more to disrupt the public's trust in the validity of these dates then any other, (Duke Nukem Forever not withstanding) I'll make this short and sweet.
According to recent posts on fan sites from Valve's MD Gabe Newell and Marketing Director Doug Lombardi, Half-Life 2 should be completed and passed on to publishers Vivendi for final mastering and duplication sometime in early August.
As it's unlikely Vivendi will see any benefit in going to the shelves at exactly the same time as Doom 3 with its imminent August launch, we can be forgiven for getting excited at the prospect of seeing this much-hyped title finally make its appearance sometime in September.
