Sony begin work on new PS Network
Career postings offer hint at Sony plans
Sony have begun creating a new gaming network, it was revealed today via a new job listing on their Synthesis careers site. The aim being to create a common network platform for the PSP handheld and the Playstation console.
As well as the PSP and the PS2, the new development will also encompass the PS3 and quite possibly other Sony hardware, with the Japanese manufacturer seeking network engineers and system planners with extensive business and consumer experience, as well as expert knowledge in load-balancing.
In addition to providing gaming related services, it is expected that the network will be used for movies and music too, given Sony's previous interest in distributed content. The system may well interface with the PSP's 802.11b wireless network connectivity, which could allow the system to connect with PCs, the internet, other PSPs, Sony consoles and other hardware too.
We'll bring you more on this interesting project as we get it, along with all that's new on the PSP, naturally.
