DICE: Star Wars: Battlefront is a scary prospect
DICE has admitted a bit of fear over tackling the rebirth of Free Radical's Star Wars: Battlefront series.
Of course, it only seems natural that DICE take on the rebooting Star Wars: Battlefront given that the original games were influenced by the success of Battlefield 1942. Still, the series is held in such high regard by fans DICE's development team can't help but feel apprehensive.
Executive producer at DICE, Patrick Bach said, "We had a discussion at the office about what happened to Battlefront. You know, the old IP that someone else made that was a rip-off of Battlefield. B**tards! We should've made it. It was a competition of powers. We couldn't do both at the same time."
"For some reason EA was negotiating with George Lucas as to who should make the new Star Wars games. And just a week later it was like, 'Oh, by the way, that discussion you were having about Star Wars? Do you want to make it?' 'Well, yeah,'" he added.
"We weren't as cocky when we got the chance,” he explained, “because to take on something like this is scary, as you can imagine. You can only screw up, right?"
Star Wars: Battlefront is tentatively pencilled in for release alongside the new Star Wars Episode VII movie in 2015.
