Driver soon, Driver mobile and Driver sounds
News relating to Atari's racer
Driver 3 - or DRIV3R - as Atari would prefer, has been sent for duplication having gone 'gold', and is expected to be heading to retailers shortly for a June 21st launch. Reflections latest update in the popular series has been delayed on numerous occasions, though finally looks set to debut on the PS2 and Xbox.
Driver the third will be out a day later in Australasia, reportedly, and follows the story of undercover cop Tanner - hero of the previous Driver games. Some twelve-million copies of Atari's most popular series have been sold to date, and in this latest outing players will be taking to the streets of three new cities: Istanbul, Nice and Miami.
The stakes couldn't be higher for Atari on this release, who have invested very heavily in the promotion and development of this third game, which the publisher expects to match the likes of Grand Theft Auto at retail.
In other related news, Unique Games have announced a brand new deal which will see them publish Sorrent's mobile Driver 3 game in the UK, as part of a multi-title deal with one North America's largest developer-publisher's of mobile games.
"Sorrent's world-class team of game designers, software engineers, and producers has a long and successful track record of creating innovative and market-leading titles," enthused Mark Watts, technical director at Unique Games. "We are thrilled to be involved in this exciting period for mobile gaming and look forward to working with Sorrent on a range of top titles."
Word on other new games licensed from Sorrent is expected soon.
Finally (phew), the Driver 3 official soundtrack will also launch on June 21st, Epic Records has confirmed. Fourteen tracks will be included. Atari's Wim Stocks commented: "Atari recognizes this vast potential, and we are thrilled to work with Epic Records and Nimrod Productions in creating an innovative soundtrack whose songs completely complement the gritty onscreen action of the Driver 3 video game."
More on all matters Driver as we get it.
