Add-on delay marks the beginning of the end for Everquest
Roll-on numero two, we reckon...
Although Everquest 2 isn't quite with us, enthusiasm appears to be dwindling for Sony Online's seminal original, with the latest add-on pack having been delayed by six weeks in order to address almost universal player disquiet. The new pack, probably the last for the current generation of Everquest, has been lambasted as little more than a "$30 patch", and the delay will be used to address the vocal concerns of the Everquest community.
Time may however be running out SOE's long-running cash-cow, with the Mac version recently axed, high-profile guilds departing, falling player numbers, and even a boycott against future titles (down to the firm's "money-grabbing") all hitting the title where it hurts, as competition increases all the time.
Sony Online are reportedly flying the most vocal opposition to the expansion to their headquarters in order to convince them of the title's worthiness, however it may be a simple case of Everquest having finally begun to run its course. Omens of War will now launch in late August, we're reliably informed.
