Microsoft and Mythic make-up
No more court case
Mythic Entertainment, the MMORPG developer behind the uber-popular Dark Age of Camelot, have settled a legal dispute with Microsoft out of court - the company confirmed today. The law suit, filed last year, was based on grounds of trademark infringement and unfair competition, and concerned Microsoft's MMORPG 'Mythica'; which has since been axed.
The 'mutually acceptable settlement' was reached with Microsoft agreeing not use the title Mythica - or any derivative - in relation to an online game, and Redmond has also dropped its application to register the name as a trademark. Mythic have also been 'assigned' several trademarks pertaining to the title, as well as related domain name.
As part of the settlement, "neither party admitted any fault or liability." No face lost, then.
"When we filed this suit we said that we were not looking for 'jackpot justice' and once Microsoft recognized this we were able to work out this settlement. We are extremely pleased with the resolution, the settlement and Microsoft's and its counsel's behaviour during the proceedings," Mythic CEO Mark Jacobs enthused.
