Valve begins to beta-test Steam Big Picture mode
Today sees the launch of the beta testing phase for the Steam Big Picture mode.
The Big Picture mode for Steam makes using your TV for gaming with your PC a far more friendly experience. The user interface has been optimised to make it easier to view on a big screen TV with refined control systems for both mouse and keyboard and game controllers.
Valve boss Gabe Newell said, "PC gaming continues to be the leading edge of entertainment, whether it's social gaming, MMOs, graphics hardware, free-to-play, or competitive gaming. With Big Picture for Steam, we are trying to do our part to give customers and developers what they want - their games, everywhere, optimized for the environment in which they are playing."
Also included in Big Picture mode is a new web browser designed to be easily readable on TVs. The browser also has a specially designed control scheme that makes it much easier to type using a controller.
