Star Citizen devs reveal The Next Great Starship competition
Fans of Chris Roberts' upcoming return to the games development, Star Citizen have been given the opportunity to contribute to the new game in the form of The Next Great Starship competition.
Cloud Imperium are looking for submissions from teams of three to design, model and rig their own starship. Teams can register between October the 31st and December the 31st for the chance to win a grand prize including 30,000 USD courtesy of sponsors Autodesk, AMD, Alienware, Crytek, Cologne Game Lab, Wacom and Youtube.
The first round will involve designing a wave particle cannon submitted via a Youtube video for the nine-person judging panel that includes Chris Roberts, members of the Cloud Imperium art and design team, representatives of Crytek and some still-to-be-named celebrities.
This round will be narrowed down to a final 16 including one entry selected by the Star Citizen community. These will then be whittled down to a final two in a weekly web series aired on Youtube from January 31st building up to the live final on June the 8th in LA. The prizes are as follows:
- 30,000 USD in cash, your designed starship included in Star Citizen and each team member receiving the first production models off the press, a copy of Autodesk Entertainment Suite and Maya Premium each and a high-end AMD PC featuring the new Radeon R9 290X video card each.
- 10,000 USD in cash plus an Alienware laptop, a copy of Autodesk Maya 2014 and an AMD Radeon R9 290X video card for each team member.
- 5000 USD cash plus a copy of Autodesk Maya LT and an AMD Radeon R9 290X video card for each team member.
- Finalists four through to 16 will receive 250 USD worth of RSI Credits (not transferable or refundable)
The most valuable team member from the final three teams will also receive a Wacom Cintiq Companion Windows 8-powered tablet.
