Konami journey to Game-alot on Arthurian quest
New game based on film sighted
With Hollywood producer Jerry Bruckheimer's King Arthur film nearing release, a videogame based on this $85 million biggie is in the offing, and in a shock move none-other than Konami have been enlisted to deliver the licensed interactive tie-in. The film will star Clive Owen as Arthur and the delightful Keira Knightley (appropriately naked on a horse, we hope) as Guinevere. It's enough to make me feel all Cornish, I can tell you.
Krome Studios will develop the title under the watchful eyes of Konami and Buena Vista Interactive, and the game will be released on the PS2, Xbox and GameCube. Like the film - the game will be historically, rather than mythologically focussed - concentrating on the gritty realities of the era instead the of the magical stuff. Like EA's block-busting Lord of the Rings games, King Arthur will use real characters, sets and other content pilfered directly from the film.
In the game, players will controller either one of the knights of the round table - Arthur, Lancelot, Tristren, or Bors - or Guinevere, a pagan warrior princess in the film. Missions will be playable alone or co-operatively and are based upon the chapters from the legend.
"Having seen early footage of the film, it's clear this is going to be an adventure that will translate well into a great action video game," enthused Konami's CEO Geoff Mulligan.
The film will be out stateside in July, the game this Autumn, more soon.
