CCP has announced plans to entice back EVE players who have let their accounts lapse in protest over their plans to introduce monetisation to the game beyond the monthly subscription.

Over 5,000 EVE players were so outraged when plans to sell virtual goods through not-so-micro micro-transactions were leaked in an official document earlier this year that they have let their accounts lapse costing an estimated 1 million USD.

The new offer will see EVE veterans offered a month at just 4.95 USD which is half the usual price which CCP hopes will bring back those who have left.

As well as the lapsed accounts, EVE has also seen players try and undermine its fragile economy which is entirely unregulated by CCP. A player delegation also elicited a full apology from CCP CEO Hilmar Veigar for the plans which included comments like: As a subscription-based golden goose, Eve needs to incorporate the virtual goods model to allow for further revenue - revenue to fund our other titles, revenue for its developer: you."
