Valve has revealed a new Counter-Strike title for the first time in 12 years to release on PC, and HD consoles.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is a new downloadable title that will expand on the immensely popular team-based combat that the series has been synonymous with since it first launched in beta in 1999.

Valve's Dave Lombardi said: "Counter-Strike took the gaming by surprise when the unlikely MOD became the most played action game in the world almost immediately after its release in August 1999. For the past 12 years, it has continued to be one of the most-played games in the world, headline competitive gaming tournaments and selling over 25 million units worldwide across the franchise. CS: GO promises to expand on CS' award-winning gameplay and deliver it to gamers on the PC as well as the next gen consoles and the Mac."

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is in at Hidden Path Entertainment in conjunction with and is due for release on PSN, and at the beginning of 2012. Valve will have CS: GO to show off at PAX Prime and the Eurogamer Expo this year for fans to get a taste of it.
