GameStop: We're selling Battlefield 3 as a download but Steam isn't
Battlefield 3 Steam boycott all but confirmed
US games retailer GameStop has come out and said that Battlefield 3 will not be available through Steam.
GameStop, who picked up Steam rival Impulse earlier this year, stated that they will be offering Battlefield 3 to PC gamers as a digital download but Valve's dominant Steam platform will not.
The news was revealed by industry analysts Baird after the held a meeting recently with the US retail giant.
Baird reported: "The upcoming EA title Battlefield 3 will be sold as a download through GameStop, but not through Steam. Given Steam's dominance and insistence on users downloading a Steam client application publishers are likely to be receptive to a competitive alternative."
