Spencer: Halo needs to revolve around the Master Chief
Halo 4 is the beginning of a new trilogy
Microsoft Games Studios' Phil Spencer has been speaking about what he sees as the best way for the Halo series to move on after parting ways with Bungie.
Spencer revealed he had thought that the series had lost its way somewhat by exploring titles that didn't revolve around the Master Chief and returning to following the him was the best way for the series to evolve.
He explained: "Playing as Master Chief, the 'John Wayne character of the universe', was a key part of what people loved about the franchise. We really spent time thinking about the story arc that we want to tell, in the world, to get back to Master Chief. Make it simple. It's not Halo-anything, it's Halo 4. It's the beginning of a new trilogy."
Spencer finished with a comparison with Gears of War, saying that it needs to explore new stories rather than the more historical storytelling in gears: "It's not about re-enacting previous wars, it's not the kind of comic-book pulp that Gears of War is which I obviously love. Halo is a very story-driven, immersive experience, centred around Master Chief."
