Disney axes Black Rock Studios
British racing studio to close
The studio behind racers like Split/Second and Pure is set to be closed in Disney's shake-up of their interactive strategy.
Black Rock Studios was working in pre-production on a free-to-play title called Champions Alliance.
An anonymous source told on the now-canned title Eurogamer: "The idea was that you had to do PVP and PVE to gain XP to somehow escape. The game was intended to be released quite quickly, in beta anyway, in about six months or so. Disney seemed unable to work out what to do with the studio and didn't trust us to do anything other than racing really - despite having a range of great talent at the studio, from a wide variety of backgrounds."
Disney's official statement said: "Disney Interactive Studios confirms that Black Rock Studios' current project has not been greenlit for further development, consequently the company informed employees yesterday of the intent to enter a consultation process on the proposal to close the studios."
