Valve has begun to embrace the new trend for gaming by launching the first five free-to-play games on Steam.

Beginning today, the launch titles will appear, one-by-one to download and play through the client.

The first game to launch is Spiral Knights and will be followed by Forsaken Worlds, Champions Online: Free for All and Global Agenda: Free Agent until it concludes with Alliance of Valliant Arms on Sunday.

Those who pick up and try the games on the day they are featured will receive exclusive content as a bonus for playing a featured title.

Valve's Jason Holtman said:"The introduction of Free to Play games is another example of the constant evolution of Steam. Free to Play games offer new game genres and game experiences for customers, while offering developers and publishers new revenue opportunities and the ability to reach customers in areas of the world where the traditional packaged goods model is less popular than F2P."
