Rockstar expands handheld development
UK developer purchased
Take 2's obsessively style-conscious publishing division Rockstar have purchased Mobius, a portable games developer based in the North of England, it was revealed yesterday. Henceforth Mobius with be known as Rockstar Leeds (not quite as chic as Rockstar San Diego though, is it?). The new acquisition previously worked on the GBA conversion of Max Payne for Rockstar, and will be focussing on new GBA and PSP developments for the publisher.
"We were very impressed with the Mobius development team from the time they began work on the Game Boy Advance version of Max Payne," enthused Rockstar's Sam Houser. "They bring a uniquely progressive vision to the titles they develop and we believe this studio is ahead of the industry on next generation handheld development. We are proud to have them join the Rockstar family."
"With our new identity as Rockstar Leeds, we will further leverage our creative and dynamic development team by delivering products that exceed industry expectations for quality, technical achievement and critical acclaim," added Mobius MD Gordon Hall. Mobius has been going strong since 1997, and currently employs a development team of around thirty.
