PSN attack will damage consumer faith in digital say devs
Not just games services will be affected
Several developers have voiced concerns that the recent attack on PSN will damage consumers faith in the platfrom and may even have a knock-on effect on digital distribution as a whole.
Cohort boss Lol Scragg, whose studio's final title the PS Mini, Me Monstar will miss its release due to the PSN outage said: "Theres a real concern that PSN users will have lost a lot of trust. The PSN market could well decrease after this. There are so many issues for consumers to think about now."
Zoe Mode's Ste Curran points out that this will have a knock on effect not just for other games platforms like Steam and Xbox Live but other digital services too like iTunes.
He said: "Digital distribution is the future, and its awesome. I just think people will be a bit more hesitant to [buy content digitally] like this in the future. Not just on PSN, but on Xbox 360 and other non-game related services as well. I dont think this is a case of people thinking PSN is vulnerable. This is about every single digital distribution system."
Sony has warned PSN users to be extra vigilant now with of identity theft and also to watch their bank and credit card statements for any suspicious transactions. Meanwhile, US PSN users have already filed a class action law suit over the security breach.
