Sony has confirmed that personal data on accounts may have been stolen in the recent "illegal intrusion" according to their latest statement.

In a new FAQ section on the PlayStation blog, warns PSN users that the attacker or attackers may have stolen personal data including names, addresses, dates of birth and even full credit card details as well as PSN IDs, logins and passwords.

They are advising all PSN users to change their passwords when PSN services go back and keep a very watchful eye on their bank and credit card statements of any cards that they had linked to their accounts.

Sony are preparing an email to send out to all the customers that they suspect to have had their personal information stolen but they do suggest that every PSN user is at risk.

As to when PSN services will return Sony said: "We are taking the investigation seriously. We will keep the service down to allow us to conduct a thorough investigation and verify smooth operation of our network services but are working hard to resume the services as soon as we can be reasonably assured security concerns are addressed."
