Strategy Analytics has released a report showing that they believe that the has passed its peak and is now in decline.

This is not an uncommon opinion amongst analysts with some expecting to announce the Wii's successor at this year's E3 in June.

Strategy Analytics' senior analyst Jia Wu said: "The largest decline [in 2010] was seen by Nintendo's Wii, whose unit fell by 24%. Both Microsoft's and Sony's PlayStation 3 have been helped by the introduction of new motion sensor experiences, and have capitalized on the lack of continued innovation on the Wii platform."

Principal analyst David Mercer added: "Nintendo must act quickly if it wants to avoid becoming an also-ran in the TV console market. The Wii's time has passed and while the will help to boost its position in the handheld market, the company cannot afford to let the TV market slip away."
