Capcom ready to take some big risks on new IP
But not from Western studios
Capcom has confirmed that will be getting ready to take some big risks with new IPs being developed in Japan.
After taking a serious hit on Western developed IPs like Dark Void and GRIN's Bionic Commando reboot Capcom has put a moratorium on developing new IPs outside of Japan but they are not totally averse to taking risks.
Capcom US's Christian Svensson told GamesIndustry.biz in an interview at last week's GDC: "Well, to clarify a bit, when I say no more new IP, I mean no new IP in the West. I think you will see us actually taking some major new IP risks I think we're a ways away from that."
Svensson added on their US activities: "The remit at the moment is still to leverage existing classic Capcom brands - I think you see that in bigger ways than perhaps you've seen from us before. New IP for the near term? No go."
