Dead Island teaser trailer makes a splash
New survival horror title's trailer pulls at the heart strings
The new trailer for Deep Silver's upcoming survival horror title Dead Island has already divided opinion in the gaming community.
The game is a first-person open-world melee action title with up to four-player co-op mode and RPG-like character customisation elements set on an island paradise that has been infested with shambling hordes of the blood-thirsty undead.
The emotional trailer shows the last moments of a young girl's life as her parents make desperate last stand against the zombies that have infested the island resort. Most who have seen the trailer have been impressed but some, including MCV's Ben Parfit found the subject matter left them feeling a bit uneasy.
Deep Silver's Malte Wagener said: "We set out to create a rather unique trailer concept that would focus on delivering emotion and atmosphere while transporting the key elements and features of Dead Island. With the help of Axis and the great collaboration between our cinematic Director, Anton Borkel and his team and Axis' own Stuart Aitken, we ended up creating something that was a breathtaking combination of pictures, story and music which formed an atmosphere of intensity that - for us - was beyond words."
Dead Island is in development on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 and is due for release some time in 2011.
