Work on the sequel to has been "stopped," according to reports.

Though an in-development prototype was pitched to by developers DICE, the Redwood-based publishing house has turned the project down.

According to a story translated by Eurogamer Sweden, "Patrick (Soderlund - EA Senior Vice President EA) acknowledges that Mirror's Edge didn't match up to their expectations regarding sales, and that has stopped the sequel that has been in development." The news was originally published in December by Press 2 Play.

"EA was shown a prototype, but declined with askance. The project has been stopped - involved parties at DICE are working on something else now," it said.

The report itself also alluded to the poor of the original game, suggesting that this ultimately lead to the game being turned down. "Patrick himself seems to have Mirror's Edge near his heart," it said, "but they are not in the business of charity."

The unofficial announcement stands in contrast to Soderlund's previous public comments regarding the series. Last November, Soderlund told Eurogamer, "What I can say is, we haven't buried it. We're absolutely continuing to support Mirror's Edge as an IP."

A first-person parkour-based platformer, Mirror's Edge was released 2009. Yet despite largely positive reviews, the game entered the all-formats chart at 20.
