It has been announced that the man that created the epic Dreamcast series, will be honoured with the Pioneer Award at the Games Developer's Choice Awards at this year's GDC.

Yu Suzuki whose, CV includes big names like Virtua Fighter, Virtua Cop, Hang-On and Daytona alongside his Dreamcast masterpiece Shenmue, will receive the award at the ceremony on March the 2nd in San Francisco.

The Pioneer Award is described as awarded to "those individuals who developed a breakthrough technology, game concept, or gameplay design at a crucial juncture in videogame history."

During that day Suzuki will be hosting a session at the GDC entitled Yu Suzuki's Gameworks: A Career Retrospective. In receiving the award he joins such illustrious names as Valve's Gabe Newell, 'Father of Video Games' Ralph Baer and founders Alex Rigopulos and Eran Egozy.
