Beginning one year after the events of Arkham Asylum, the six issue miniseries sets the scene for the events of Arkham City, the new home for Gotham's criminals established by new mayor Quincy Smith and run by Dr Hugo Strange, one of the few people who knows Batman's true identity.

The comics will be written by Batman: The Animated Series writer Paul Dini and will focus on the struggle for power within Arkham City between Gotham's most dangerous supervillains. The comics will be available digitally worldwide for 2.99 USD.

DC Comic's Jim Lee said: "The digital first stories offer a unique incentive for fans to experience interesting and exciting stories beyond the pages in the printed comic. The additional pages will serve as interludes within the regular and wont be necessary to follow the main story of the mini-series. Fans will also be able to read these interludes in print later, when we publish the collected edition."
