Pre-owned games market keeping the industry afloat? 'Bulls**t,' says Codemasters
Cousens remains vehemently anti pre-owned
Codemasters CEO Rod Cousens has called out the notion of the second-hand market proping up the games industry as "Bullshit."
Speaking in the latest of EGTV's Eurogamer Asks feature, Cousens responded unequivocally to the suggestion that many gamers can only afford to buy the latest games thanks to trade-ins.
"I think it's bullshit. I think the argument on traffic escalating in store because of that doesn't bear out in any figures I've seen whatsoever," he said.
"If you take that argument to the Nth degree, why don't we sell it for nothing? And then you'll get even more people coming in, because no-one wants to pay for anything."
This isn't the first time Cousens has come out against the second-hand market. The Codemasters Boss said much the same last November, even going so far as to suggest that pre-owned "expands the potential for piracy," while calling the stand-off between retailers and publishers "ridiculous."
Thanks Eurogamer.
