Analyst: 360 shifts twice as much as the PS3 in December
Wii still maintains its lead though
NPD analyst Michael Pachter has announced a snippet of their US hardware sales figures for December which are due to be released soon.
Pachter stated that the Xbox 360 experienced a very impressive month having outsold the PlayStation 3 more than two to one.
By his estimates the 360 shifted around 2.5 million units compared to the PS3's 1.2 million units for December 2010. While all this was going on the Wii narrowly maintained its lead selling 2.6 million units although that represents a 32 percent decline in sales on December 2009.
He said: "We expect strong sales for the Xbox 360 due to Kinect, and we believe that Kinect console bundles sold especially well. PS3 sales should be down, as sales from Move are unlikely to offset difficult comparisons from last Septembers price cut. Given competition from the other consoles and as disclosed by Nintendo, we think that the Wii had another down month. We expect Nintendo DS hardware sales to also continue to struggle until the introduction of the Nintendo 3DS in March."
