The special edition red launched this month for Mario's 25th Anniversary has caused a serious spike in Nintendo's sales.

The mushroom-loving plumber has managed to triple the of Wii hardware for the last week against the previous week with his nifty new red machine.

The Wii sales jumped from 11,521 units the previous week to 39,308 last week which pushed the Wii back up to second place in the hardware charts behind the in Japan.

Third in the charts was the with the LL and the DSi following up in fourth and fifth respectively.
